JCC Technology wish list for 2018/2019

What would you like technology to give you in the coming year? What would you like a laptop or phone to be able to do which it cannot do now? What new features or changes to Windows would you like to see? How about a new TV – what would you like a TV to be capable of? Here is a list of JCC members’ wishes which we will revisit next year to see if any of them have come true.

Digital Assistants:

  • Control of Google Maps GPS Navigation app by voice (currently you need to use touch)
  • An app that seamlessly ties together all the smart assistants, so that the best placed one answers a call (and the others keep quiet)
  • Amazon Echo in Spain (supposedly…later this year !)
  • Alexa (and Google Maps GPS Navigation) to provide better language translation and pronunciation of Spanish place names

Screens:

  • Phones and phablets with foldable screens
  • Phones, tablets and laptops with non-reflective screens which you can read in bright sunlight
  • Huge hi resolution TV screens that are absolutely dumb, allowing the user to add whatever intelligence they want, not forcing them into the walled garden of the supplier

One Stop Shop:

  • Encrypted Central repository for application software authorisation (for a device and/or user)
  • Encrypted central repository for all GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) compliance information for a user

Cross Platform integration:

  • Google, Apple and Microsoft contacts to work seamlessly over all platforms

Windows 10:

  • Get rid of those frequent intrusive updates
  • Give the user more control to determine favourite settings and associated apps
  • Intelligent storage space management on a PC (getting rid of duplicate files and old versions)

Globalisation:

  • Netflix and Amazon prime to offer the same international content no matter which country you connecting from (e.g. not possible to see a Spanish series with English subtitles if viewing in Spain)
  • Instant, good quality subtitles on foreign language films and YouTube videos

Batteries:

  • Inbuilt induction or solar powered charging for devices
  • Better battery life for mobile devices

Security:

  • Secure connection to WiFi hotspots
  • Better password management

General:

  • Manufacturers to use the same terminology on devices, e.g. source vs input on TV remote controls.
