JCC thanks Morris

Morris Gray was presented with a voucher for a golf weekend for him and his wife Elsie in recognition of his 11 years service as Club President. Margaret March the new President presented the voucher at the Club on Tuesday 28 Sept and commented that Morris held a very early number on the membership list having joined in 1996. There are now only 14 earlier numbers in use for current members. Margaret said that Morris had seen ‘the best of times and the worst of times’ during his time as President with two floods causing a lot of damage to our equipment and the premises. The last flood in fact made the Club homeless until Morris managed to secure a rental agreement with the Bridge Club, where we meet now. The ‘best of times’ have resulted in a thriving Club with over 400 members and several special interest groups which we all know is due to Morris’s unstinting hard work. We all wish him well for the future and hope to see him at the Club for many years to come.

Morris replied:

I was caught by surprise this morning by the President interrupting proceedings to thank me for my past efforts for JCC and to make a very generous presentation to me.
As I said this morning, in response, the ‘thanks’ were not necessary …………..but much appreciated.
JCC owes me nothing!……….it’s the other way around.
I owe a great debt of gratitude to JCC and it’s Members.
When my wife and I first arrived in Javea in 1991, we knew nobody, but, after joining JCC, I met a lot of people who I now regard as friends…….that was and still is, invaluable.
Again, many thanks for your generosity.

Morris
