On Thursday 21 July we looked at the following:
- How to send the same message to several contacts using the broadcast facility. Note you cannot send a broadcast to someone who does not have your number in their phone i.e. no cold calling. Replies to a broadcast only come to you and are not seen by the others, it is effectively a Bcc facility.
- How to create and edit a group – give your group a name and profile image, select the contacts you want in the group to add them. If you don’t have someone’s number but know they want to be in your group, send them an invitation by another method.
Replies in a group are seen by everyone – be careful what you say!
- To avoid a lot of ‘ping’ notifications, use the ‘reaction’ facility to acknowledge a message rather than reply, otherwise your phone will never stop ‘pinging’.
- To reply to/forward a message select it and use the tools at the top of the screen.
- You need to add someone to your contacts to send them a WhatsApp. If you want to check if a contact uses WhatsApp look at their profile in your list.
- To change the ringtone for a particular person, edit their Contact record
- To format the characters in a message, surround a word with an asterisk for bold and underscore for italic. E.G. *bold* or _italic_
- WhatsApp does not work over Bluetooth in car – maybe that will come next!
- Two versions of WhatsApp for PCs. More convenient when using keyboard or uploading images/files from PC.
WhatsApp Web runs in browser. WhatsApp desktop does not need browser. Both look and work exactly the same.
