What’s a Blog? – What use is it to me? Are they free and easy to create?

On Thursday 19th September we looked at the (actually not so) forgotten art of Blogging. Here are some definitions:

Wikipedia defines the “old fashioned” concept (from about 10 years ago)

A blog is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries. Posts are typically displayed in reverse chronological order so that the most recent post appears first, at the top of the web page Wikipedia) …

Merriam Webster gives a broader, more modern definition.

a website that contains online personal reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks, videos, and photographs provided by the writer

also : the contents of such a site

a regular feature appearing as part of an online publication that typically relates to a particular topic and consists of articles and personal commentary by one or more authors

An Old Fashioned Blog

The club used BlogSpot between 2006 – 2008 …and it’s still there! The Google service is now called “Blogger” and it’s an easy way to start. Note the classic design with the “posts” on the left and a panel of links to posts from earlier dates on the right. It still works, though some of the links to external sites are “dead”

Here’s one I update on Weebly. It’s a website which includes three blogs in three languages ( Human translated, not Google Translated!) ..: http://amuxabia.weebly.com Click on the Blog title on the Home Page and you will be directed to the Blog which has the classical layout – post on the left and links to the archive of blogs on the right.

The Posts are easy to create, using Drag and Drop to add images, links etc.

The Computer Club Website is powered by WordPress which is recommended tool for Blogging, though it requires a bit of experience to get to grips with. : https://javeacomputerclub.com
