Digital data are not forever – what does the future hold for our digital memories?

While printed photographs, handwritten letters, and drawings can last for centuries, what will happen to our memories in this digital age? CDs and hard drives degrade. You may have some files on floppies, but nothing to play them on. Are my data safe in the Cloud? Will future generations be able to access my photos and home movies? What about old web pages? If they disappear, their history goes with them. This Thursday, August 7, we will discuss the implications of the coming “Digital Dark Age” when valuable information will be lost forever.
